| The tiny island of Cozumel has drawn visitors since antiquity. Located in the Mexican Caribbean, once an important Mayan sanctuary believed to be a sacred shrine, ever since oceanographer Jacques Cousteau revealed Cozumel's underwater beauty to the rest of the world in a documentary in the 60's, Cozumel became first choice for diving enthusiasts and a favourite island getaway for many. The world’s second-largest barrier reef lies just off the coast. El Cozumeleño Beach Resort is ideally located on one of the island’s most beautiful beaches at the northern end of the Hotel Zone, a 10 minute drive from Cozumel airport, 5 minutes from the central plaza downtown and the San Gervasio ruins, and about 10 minutes to the national marine park. It’s a quick 30-minute ferry ride to the mainland and Playa Del Carmen, cultural center of the Maya Riviera, making resort guests ideally positioned to explore the area’s many treasures.
